CHARLOTTE, NC – Congresswoman Renee Ellmers (R-NC) will join the Combat Charlotte events on Friday, July 13, 2012. Congresswoman Ellmers is a freshman Representative from the 2nd Congressional District in North Carolina.
Congresswoman Ellmers became involved in politics after the passage of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, which she opposed. She became involved in local Republican politics and joined Americans for Prosperity, a free-market political advocacy group and decided to run for Congress. As a nurse for 21 years Congresswoman Ellmers never thought she would get involved in politics. On Election Day in 2010, Congresswoman Ellmers was announced as the winner and then again in a recount conducted later that month. Congresswoman Ellmers defeated Congressman Bob Etheridge by one of the narrowest margins in US history, only 1,483 votes. Read more about Congresswoman Ellmers here.
Combat Charlotte is a weekend gathering of the nation’s top leaders of the Young Republican National Federation on July 13 – 14, 2012 to meet and develop new ideas on how the Republican Party can engage young people. Folding this ever important demographic into the Republican Party’s Victory system will be a key focus, as well as successfully engaging and energizing Republican and Independent young people as “boots on the ground” into targeted areas that will impact North Carolina in the fall.
